During the Northern Song Dynasty, the Yang clan became famous throughout the land for their loyalty and dedication to the country, even sacrificing their lives for its cause. The Liao Dynasty, then at war with the Song state, devised a plot to invite the Song King to a 'Twin Dragon' conference to discuss peace terms. The Yang father and son were tasked with protecting the King as he journeyed to the meeting. Upon arrival, they uncovered the Liao trap, leading to a fierce battle between the two forces. Though they managed to safely escort the King back, only one of the eight family members, Yang Liulang, returned unscathed to the imperial court.
Years later, Yang Liulang's son, Yang Zongbao, was killed by King Wen of Western Xia, leaving only the young Yang Wenguang as the remaining heir. The widows of the Yang clan decided to join forces and retaliate against Western Xia for their sudden aggression towards Song and to avenge Zongbao. Ultimately, led by the matriarch She Taijun, their army prevailed after a series of arduous battles, fulfilling their duty to both country and family.
